코로나 이후의 우리의 삶은 어떻게 변화할까. 특히, 안전한 야외활동과 관련해 많은이가 주목하고 있다.

펭귄오션레저(대표 김자우)에 따르면 여행전문가들이 최근 자연친화적 공간에서 가족단위의 안전한 야외활동을 제공하는 여행상품이 인기를 끌고 있다고 밝혔다. 이와 함께 펭귄오션레저가 선상 파티보트와 바닷속을 탐험할 수 있는 잠수정의 장점을 결합한 반잠수정 ‘펭귄’을 선보인다고 6일 알렸다.

이와 함께 펭귄오션레저는 코로나19로 여행의 패러다임이 변화하고 있는 상황에 맞춰 해외에서 성공한 비즈니스 모델을 국내로 역수입한 성공 사례로 꼽히고 있다.

창립 6주년을 맞은 펭귄오션레저의 관광 사업은 공공기관 평가에서도 인정받고 잇으며 5년간 지속해온 ‘펭귄’의 사업성과 안전성을 인정받아 지난달 한국관광공사가 주관한 ‘제11회 관광벤처사업 공모전’에서 성장관광벤처기업으로 선정된 바 있다.

이에 김자우 펭귄오션레저 대표는 “수중관람의 즐거움에 다양한 해양 생태교육의 유익함을 더한 해양 융복합 AR 콘텐츠를 개발하여 2020년 연말 실증사업을 준비하고 있다”며, “본 콘텐츠는 펭귄의 해외 사업장은 물론 전세계 아쿠아리움과 해양박물관으로 진출해, 해양 AI 도슨트 서비스까지 사업규모를 확대하겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.

한편 ‘펭귄’을 제작, 운영하는 펭귄오션레저는 코스닥 상장회사인 에이치엘비의 사내 벤처기업으로 2014년 설립됐으며 2015년부터는 중국 쓰촨성 청두(成都) 아쿠아리움에 처음 납품, 이후 몰디브, 세이셸, 필리핀, 미국으로 연이어 수출에 성공했다.

이 중 몰디브와 필리핀의 최고급 리조트 5곳과 중국의 대형 아쿠아리움 2곳에서 ‘펭귄’을 만나볼 수 있는데 특히, 몰디브 ‘릴리비치 리조트&스파’에서 운영 중인 ‘펭귄’은 환상적인 바닷속 풍경 덕에 관광객들의 사랑을 한 몸에 받고 있다.

Designed by Korean company Raonhaje, Penguin is made with a compact transparent compartment that hangs from the middle and stays below the surface of the water.

The unique vehicle almost resembles a regular boat and is made up of two floating hulls on either side of a plexi-glassed cabin, attached underneath.

With the help of this central cabin that comes with three large windows on the front and the side, one can explore the ocean floor without the hassles of getting wet.

Further, while sports like scuba diving require expensive certification and training, sailing the waters in the Penguin is seamless and relatively cheaper.
